♻️What is PLA & PBAT?
  • What is PLA?
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a plant-based bioplastic made from renewable resources like corn or sugarcane. It’s sturdy, heat-resistant, and breaks down in composting conditions, making it a smart alternative to traditional plastics.
  • What is PBAT?
PBAT (Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate) is a compostable material designed to break down quickly. It adds flexibility and durability — and is often blended with PLA for stronger, eco-friendly packaging.
♻️PLA vs. PBAT
  • Material source:
PLA is plant-based, often derived from corn or sugarcane. PBAT is petroleum-based but fully compostable.
  • Composability:
Both materials are compostable, but PBAT degrades faster than PLA under industrial composting conditions.
  • Flexibility:
PLA is typically stiff, making it perfect to create eco-friendly packaging. PBAT, on the other hand, is flexible, making it great for packaging or combining with PLA to create sturdier products.
♻️Why They’re Better ThanTraditional Plastics?

Old-style plastics can linger for hundreds of years and pollute oceans and landfills. PLA and PBAT break down much faster — in just a few months under composting conditions.

  • Faster breakdown: Compostable materials like PLA and PBAT decompose within 3–6 months in proper composting environments.
  • Lower CO₂ impact: PLA comes from renewable sources, cutting the carbon footprint significantly compared to petroleum-based plastics.
  • Safe for you: PLA and PBAT are toxin-free — no harsh chemicals transferring to your food.
  • No microplastics: They don’t fragment into harmful particles — they simply return to nature.
  • Strong & reliable: Eco-friendly doesn’t mean flimsy — these materials are durable and dependable
    for everyday use.

FABRICATION

RECYCLEDYARN

We use recycled Polyamide and Polyester for our activewear ranges because of their stretch, durability and moisture wicking properties. Recycled yarns are split into pre
and post-consumer categories.

NATURAL BASED FIBRES

Natural based fibres derive from natural sources with the most common fibres being cotton, silk, wool and viscose. These fabrics are bio-degradable and contribute to Cote Libre's sustainability goals.
